I HAVE A SLIGHTLY BENT RUDDER POST AND NEED TO REMOVE AND REPAIR PRIOR TO SURVEY PER INSURANCE REQUEST. ANY DIAGRAMS,STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS,SUGGESTIONS,THINGS TO BE AWARE OF?????EMAIL...NF22@YAHOO.COM,OR POST.
Just redid mine on my 33.5. I had a new one installed from Foss Foam. Total cost was @ 2k. Seabrook Shipyard did mine. The worst part about the whole process is the wait to get the rudder here. After that it went quick. When we purchased Frolic Some last year, the owner compensated us at the time of closing for the rudder replacement. E-mail me @ bob_fuller@tnb.com if you have any questions. Good luck.
I removed the rudder from my H33 a couple weeks ago. Took some photos of the rudder post assembly where it enters the boat. I could come up with step-by-step instructions on removal of rudder and reference them to the photos if interested.Ken Palmer, S/V Liberty
Ken, there has been a lot of discussion about the removal of H33's rudders. If you have the photo's it would be great for this forum, I for one dread the day I have to pull my rudder and would appreciate your precious experience.
Dropping the rudder is not a problem at all, except that you have to dig a hole for it to drop into, or do it while on a travelift. I have dropped mine on several occasions. Good luck.
