Can anyone tell me how to remove the rudder from my 1978 32' CC. There is some cracking of the gelcoat at the top of the skeg, and I think I should pull the rudder and shaft to be able to do a proper repair. I need to work on some other repairs that were not done very well also. I had the bottom blasted last fall, and am preparing to barrier-coat with MAS Epoxy and then Pettit Hydrocoat over that. I'll take a good look at the quadrant and rudderpost this weekend, but any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

Thats one area of my boat I have not

Got to take apart but I would think after you let up some slack on the steering cables you can remove the quadrent and then se whats holding the rudder post from dropping, I'm sure there's a pin right above the stuffing box. Good Luck, keep us posted RAD

Thanks for the response

In poking through various forums, I came across the name and number for Rudy at D&R Marine, who worked for O'Day at the factory yard, and his advice was pretty much what you suggested. I was starting to think I was the only one who had the need to drop the rudder! Thanks for the info.

Why Remove it

I have a 322 and I had some cracks and it sounded hollow, I made the repairs while the bottom was being painted. I drilled a few holes in the top and filled with filler untill it came out the bottom of the rudder than let it dry. I than put two coats of fiberglass on the rudder and finished with two coats of bottom paint. Two pull the rudder I did not have enough clearance to take it out.
