Funny you should find the rudder bushing different Tim. I am pondering a new rudder for YOT. I contacted Foss Foam who supposedly made the original and they can't find that mold. Perhaps the Cal rudder explains that and the bushing issue you are having. I made my bushings because I had a chunk of Delrin laying around and a lathe in my basement. Couple that with I wanted exacting tolerances with appropriate running fits and I'm cheap. I agree the 27 is extremely tender for such a heavy boat but on the plus side it locks in about 15 to 20 degrees of heel and takes off like a shot. We hit 10 knots this summer a few times but couldn't sustain it long enough for the GPS to capture it on the log. Fun just the same to see double digits even for a few minutes just the same. I am looking at the rudder made by Rudder Craft but they need the rudder to determine what I have. Thanks for the info as this may explain the confusion I am experiencing

Is there any vertical play in the rudder shaft? The rudder should not touch the hull unless it is bent or the rudder stops are missing which looks to be the case as the picture seem to show it over 90 degrees.

Yes! I also hit 10+ on the recent trip....down wind for short periods. 8.5 sustained. I talked to an x owner in SF and he put the lead bulb on the keel ( optional). Said it made a big difference. I'm thinking about it. He may still have the mold. I'll also replace the rudder next haul out.
