My rudder sunk in a storm on my mooring as I did not double up nut on bolt holding rudder in. Fortunately a free diver dove down 20 ft and swam the rudder to me. Now i see where my rudder post is loose in the rudder. I am going to try pouring some resin down the post to tighten it in the rudder before installing it. I am going to tie line around the rudder then get under my boat and shove post up through the tube. I tried to tie cord to the top of the post but it was too tight in the tube so I will have to lash the rudder then secure it to the rail so it does not sink again. Will resin secure post in rudder?

I took my rudder apart and did a repair.

- used a dremel tool to remove the fiberglass, it poped off like a margarin lid.
- let the rudder dry for a month
- saturated the foam with fiberglass resin
- put the old fiberglass (margarine lid) back on.

I am in the second year after this repair.

Good luck

Sandra,
I tried to put epoxy down my post but the fiberglass prevented any epoxy from getting in. I think I will try again in the fall and cut away some fiberglass at the top of the post so the epoxy soaks in like you did. My post only moves 1/16th of an inch but the rudder moves a couple inches at the far end.
I put my rudder back in and it was easier than I thought as the foam made the rudder float so I had to force it down to get the post into the tube. It only took 10 minutes in the water to get it back in the tube. Glad to have a functioning rudder again even though it has a few inches of play in it.
