I am trying to find a replacement for the nylon bushing /gasket that sits onve the rudder post inside the cockpit of my 1984 Catalina 30. I have wheel sterring. The rudder post enters the back of the cockpit. There is a metal cap on top that is for the emergency tiller. below that is a Nylon bushing. Mine is quite worn. The OD of the post is 6cm. The thickness of the bushing is about 5mm. Can any one tell me where to get a replacement??

Have one machined from bronze. Get good dimensions for the machine shop.

Did this last week on our C27. While the boat was on the hard I noticed that the gap between the top of the rudder and the hull appeared to be twice what the other nearby C27's showed. So, I pushed the rudder up until the nylon washer touched the hull, propped it up in place. Headed to the local WalMart and purchased a white nylon cutting board for a couple bucks. Removed the head piece for the emergency tiller and used the old top washer as a template to cut a new (slightly thicker) washer from the cutting board. Used a rasp file to smooth it out and installed it. Now the rudder is where it should be and I have a new nylon washer (spacer) to boot. Believe the cutting board was about 3/16 to 1/4" thick. The original washer was about 1/8" thick.

Interesting idea for a repair spacer. What did you use to cut the shape out with?

Used a jig saw with a fine blade. As I mentioned, I used the old spacer as a template and traced the OD and ID with a sharpie. I didn't check with Catalina or Catalina Direct. No doubt the cost, if available, would have been a least $20 with shipping. My out of pocket was $2 and some change, a short trip to WMart and the five minutes to cut it. MacGyver would be proud.
