I have a rudder that has a V crack approximately 1/16 inch wide and 1/8 inch deep on its leading edge from top to bottom. I have been told that the cause was water getting into the rudder and freezing. I have also been told that I need to drill inspection holes in the rudder so that I can examine the plate/tabs to see if the welds are good or if they have deteriorated. My boat was built in 1976. Does anyone have experience doing this? Does anyone have any pictures or information on how to do this?
