following the "rudder replacement" thread by Judy, dated 7/31? Read that thread and particularly the Hadoulias response and the link to his photos. We all recognize this as a weak point but until Judy's experience I had not heard of losing one. Also see Gene Gruender's concerns and fixes at the Related Link. He improved the bearing area AND added a watertight bulkhead.
