Rudder failure?

I have an 86 H23, with a kick up ruddershe stays in a slip, and due to the tides and wakes tends to always be in motion. I've noticed some "slop" in the rudder were the bot goes thru for the kick up rudder. I seem to be tighnening this bolt evey time I go out, only to find more "slop" the next time. Does this mean the bot is wearing a larger hole in the rudder? Can this be repaired? Is there a way to keep this slop out permanently? Is there a way to keep the rudder out of the water when at the slip Thanks for the help

Also have h23, just took assembly apart to install new tiller and line to rudder, there are two large plastic washers on either side of the rudder, do u have these ?also if you have a lock nut on the blot it seems to me that one tightening should do, cant imaine that muc wear, if it is wear you might be able to epoxy washers to the rudder that would reduce the size of the hole in rudder it self, the fact that you are tightening it every time makes me think it is sometihing else, could you be overtightening and compressing rudder, is the slop side to side or up and down, take it apart, check it out, good luck Mike

Total Rebuild

Over the winter I totally rebuilt my rudder. I glassed the two halves together and repaired the pivot point.To repair the pivot hole, I bought a 6" brass pipe/tube (available at any harware store) take your bolt along and you will find a perfect fit. I cut the pipe the same width as the rudder and epoxied it into the hole. A lock nut will stay put and the slop is gone.
