Rudder delamination/repair or replace

Need info on rudder replacement vs.repair i.e. cost vs. difficulty of repair. Also,names of suppliers of O'Day parts

I would think unless you have major damage the best thing would be to repair your rudder. Fiberglass can be repaired much cheaper than completely replacement (if you could find one). Even a bent rudder can be removed and straighten. Check with a good yard for a estimate. Good luck

The wonder of glasswork is its nearly infinite repairablilty. I'd bet you can do it with a bit of research, or have it done without too much trauma. If not, look for Rudy's address in the archive. He's the guy when it comes to O'day parts. Justin - O'day Owners Web

While I agree, in general that fiberglass repair is cost conscious, if there is a problen thru the shaft into the core of the rudder it may cost more with welding and reconstruction then the cost of replacement. Rudy Nickerson (archives) in Assonet, MA (D&R Marine) has all the parts...fairly reasonable. Good Luck.
