Hauled my 23.5 out recently and it never fails, I forgot something. I didn't lift my rudder out and the attached damage ensued on the way out. Suggestions on repair methods and products would be appreciated.

Yikes! I'd rubbed mine in the same manner on my 240. mine was on the front. I'm not sure how you'd split the back edge like that. I replaced mine with an Idasailor replacement rudder. It's solid plastic and you don't need to worry about water getting in there.
Its easy! No, its not, but not that difficult. Now is your chance to trim it a little so it won't easily hit anymore. Grind or cut off damaged area and then apply resin saturated fibre matt or weave over sanded, prepped surface. File down cured patch and shoot with epoxy paint!

I'd start out with some West system epoxy, brushed intot he damaged area and then clamped until cured. Then follow-up with thickened West system (check theyr web sire regarding what high strength filler to use and build up the rudder until it's the original shape again. Paint. The process will require plenty of sanding but prices for sulpplies s.b. quite reasonable
You wouldn't be the first. I agree with the chief, it's not a difficult job. Resin and cloth are available at Lowe's.
the biggest concern is whether or not the foam inside that rudder is water logged and if so, suggest buying a new one. I could not tell if the rudder had been a split seam on the back just above the damage with algae on it.
If you do attempt to repair, stand it up and let the inside dry out first before any repairs. I would be concerned shortening it too depending on the construcition. You can buy a replacement thru this site as Foss has the mold for a new one. Ida Sailor is also a good choice.
