Are there readily avaiable replacement rudder bushings? Mine are worn,
but still useable, but I'd like to renew them while the rudder is off.

Thanks.

I turned new ones from UHMWPE - better than the fiber used originally. A
metal lathe makes quick work of this, but it's not that critical, so other
means might do. Bill Bach

Thanks Bill Steve. As I have a metal lathe I'll try Bill suggestion
and use some UHMWPE. From what I can see there is only the one
bushing in the 'shoe', with the other end is held by the bronze
fitting bolted to the cockpit floor. Except for a close fit in the
tube I couldn't see any other bushings.Peter

There's only the one in the shoe. The other end has a lipped seal and just
pivots in the bronze. I made the UHMWPE bushing 6 years ago and it's still
has no play. Truly wear resistant stuff! Bill Bach V 1071

Hi Peter

That is correct. The only bearing is in the rudder shoe. OD needs to be
30.15mm but check for size with the rudder shoe which is easily taken
off by removing the twoo threaded stainless bolts. The ID needs to be
25mm (+ a wee bit) as the shaft is 25mm OD. Length needs to be about
30mm.

A recent survey on our boat indicated a little play in
the cutlass bearing. I am sure several of you have had
some experience with this? grin I think I can get a
season out of her, but don't want to push it too long
before replacing. I have never done this type of work
before. Any information on this work would be
appreciated! Are replacement parts difficult to come
by? etc...

Thanks and Happy Holidays!
Chris

Hi Chris

Bearings are available from me. COntact off group (HYPERLINK
"mailto:steve@..."steve@...)

If you have a combi then perhaps a good idea to renovate that at the
same time as kit very cheap. All instructions and diagrams are
available.

Cheers
