I have the same problem on my 2001 Catalina 310. During a visit to the Catalina facility a few years ago I wanted to get new rub rail to fix the problem. They told me they had a purchasing agent that tried to save money and buy rub rail from a different supplier for few years when my boat was built and I would have to change rub rail and the extrusion. A lot of expense and work.

I tested an area on my bow putting a spot of 4200 about ever foot and it appears to keep the rub rail in place. I plan to do all of it next spring before launching. Got nothing to loose.

Re:Rubrails falling out often on Catalina

I had the same problem on my 95. I finally bought a new rub rail from Catalina Direct. Easy to install. Just make sure you do it in warmer weather (70) otherwise the material is not flexible enough. Old rub rail was marked up and, as you may know, not easy to clean. However, I think if you were to pull the slack out of the old rub rail and cut off the excess it would hold better. Not sure you could do this on your boat but on mine I could cut stb and port side off at the aft ends. It is held in by one screw only. Good luck.

And I thought it was just me. Came back to my boat one day and the rub rail was hanging loose on starboard from the bow right back to midship. I hammered it back in with a rubberized winch handle. I then saw it come off a late 90's 400 when it was sailed hard on a lake crossing. This is obviously a wide-spread problem. It's disappointing that Catalina doesn't take ownership for this and offer a fix.

They did fix it! The 2012's all now have an aluminum rail, the rubber one is gone. But if you do not have a 2012 (yeah, right!) so be it with the old! I tried 5200 and even that didn't keep it in. You're right, with big waves it pulls out! Pain in the A!!!
