Good morning,

I'm new to the site and see that there is a lot of information shared and I'm hoping that someone can give me some direction.

I am interested in purchasing new bumper/rub rails for my Catalina 30. However, I have only been able to locate black or grey. Where can I locate white/off white/cream anything other than black or grey that will be compatible with the existing aluminum rail?

Thanks for helping out.

Grey rubrail

I know you said you preferred a different color, but we replaced our original cream/tan colored rubrail with the grey one offered by catalinadirect.com and really like the result. In our opinion, the grey made a huge improvement in the boat's appearance.

Re: Grey rubrail

why do you guys go to catalina direct when catalina yachts is still in business and makes it policy to stock parts, even for older boats?

Better customer service, I've ordered parts from the factory when it was in California, but since moving to Florida it's often faster and less cumbersome to get parts from CD. If I go to rendevous this year I'll ask them why I can't order factory parts online instead of calling for a part number to then E-mail an order.

...because Catalina Direct has an online catalog where I can see the actual part...probably not a good answer, but the one with the best media usually wins!

I second this.. I've not had a good "parts" experience since they've moved.. Been trying to get an answer from Ken down there for 6 weeks now.

BUT you have no way of knowing if the parts are the same, or even good quality. my one experience with catalina direct was ordering colored deck filler caps which faded to colorless in a few weeks. it was then that catalina yachts told me that catalina direct has no connection with catalina yachts, who has no control over what catalina direct sells. so, if you want to buy look-alike parts that fade within weeks, or whatever, go ahead. i've never had a problem with catalina yachts or its parts department. problem with inferior parts is that they often don't seem inferior until they fail.

Wow....you're the only person I know of dissatisfied with CD. Everyone I know with a Catalina uses CD...myself included... have always been EXTREMELY satisfied with both customer service and product quality....and I've spent alot of $$$ with CD restoring my C25. But I guess the old saying is true....can't please everyone.

first, i'm glad you're satisfied, which has little to do with my point. second, if anyone is being neglected by people at catalina, just call frank butler and watch the sparks fly.

now, back to my original point, why would someone ever pay more for parts that may or may no be as good as original, when the genuine replacements are available a phone call away?

we have a great advantage over all those cal, pearson, o'day, etc. owners. use it.

I agree. I met Ken at the Catalina Parts Dept recently, and he said they had had some issues with customer service during the process of moving the parts operation to Florida, but have now increased the staff and are trying to improve service. Eventually, the plan is to put a parts catalog online. They have a truly vast selection of original parts, and can even fabricate some that are no longer in stock or available, and their prices are very competitive. I think we Catalina owners should support this service whenever possible.

Wow, I had no idea they were 2 separate companies. I just assumed CD was the factory outlet for the factory. Maybe many others do, too.

Thanks for sharing your experience, I agree the factory can be a valuable resource. As many parts are not made by Catalina I find it useful to have a number of suppliers such as:
Bosun's Supply in Newport Beach who SOLD my Yanmar & transmission to Catalina for engine and trans parts.
Garhauer's in Upland, CA for hardware including my closed "Catalina Turnbuckles"
I know the canvas guy who made all the factory canvas for the boats made in CA.
And I've even bought a lot of stuff right here on this site: best cockpit cushions ever:
http://shop.catalinaowners.com/detail-meshcushions.htm?group=187
And I like their mainsail and helmcovers also and have really liked them,
better than the factory supplied.
