Rub Rails-1977 H30?

I hope to launch my new-to-me boat this week. If I use pilings to align the boat into a slip, am I going to scratch the sides? The toerail does not look like it sticks out enough to provide any protection. Has any one added rubrails to this model? If so, how big a mess did you have with screws every six inches?

Most folks I know use fenders to protect the topsides. Rubrails are no guarantees against scratches and screw holes is an invitation to rain leaks.

Not talking about "in" the slip, talking about getting "into" the slip. I had a 33 Outisland about 20 years ago that had big rubber rubrails and I loved it. Just lay rail against a piling and rotate on around it. Makes docking in wind or current a lot easier. I guess I could hang tires tugboat-style but rubrails would look a little better.

Congrats on the new boat. I had the same problem with skuff marks on sides from pilings.
If you can find some old fire hose to wrap arnound the pilings , that will help protet the sides.
or you could just look at some of the commercial solutions available.

Check the 37 cutter /cherubini forum I think someone has done a rubrail install.

I would find carpt remanets and wrap the pilings using plastic ties

Good recommendations about softening the pilings. I need to do that. But you will find that the toerails do in fact protect the topsides. At least on my H37C there is just enough metal overhanging the gelcoat to let it slide on the posts. This assumes that the pilings are straight of course. Carpet is probably the cheapest and easiest answer.

On my '82 H30, the curve of the hull sticks out farther than the toerail...consequently the PO had rubbed off the stripes on the starboard side. I use fenders but I really like the idea of carpet on the pilings.
