What is a good way to restore and clean vinyl/rubber rub rail.

A number of methods have been discussed in detail in previous threads. I've used Brush Thinner (NOT paint thinner) with success but it's nasty nasty stuff & my rubrail is so old that I doubt it would do any damage. LaDonna

I have been using the Island Girl stuff

I have been using Island Girl products the last couple of years. Seems to be working ok. My rub rail and gel coat are starting to have better color and are cleaner. Check out the gel-coat forum. Les Murray s/v Ceilidh '86 C-36 #560

Replace rubrail

A new vinyl replacement adds a lot to the looks of a boat. I just replaced the rub-rail on my Catalina 22. It was fairly simple, and took a little over two hours (including the visits from neighbors) Catalina Direct suggests placing the vinyl rub-rail in a bucket of hot water before installation. However, I found that the vinyl would not stay warm/hot enough to make the installation easy. So, I used a heat-gun, with a putty knife, and it worked very well. I am restoring my boat, and I wish all the other projects on the boat went as smoothly. Johnny Henson

Cleaning rub rails

Best way to clean the scuff marks is "Acetone" with a clean cloth rag. Rub a small section at a time, turning the rag to a clean area and dousing it with some acetone as you proceed. Use protective gloves. Works great!
