rub rail replacement

Hi guys and gals, I have just purchased a 1990 catalina 18 and the rub rail is pretty crummy looking. The vinyl is discolored and I would like to replace it . There is a joint in the vinyl at the stern of the boat with a couple of screws. My question is where can I buy the replacement vinyl and how hard is it to get the new rub rail in? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Is there a web site for catalina parts? Bill

Try this first!

Do you know anyone in the commercial printing business! Offset printing press use a rubber mat "blanket" on one of the rollers to transfer the image from the plate to the paper. The cleaning solution for removing the ink from this blanket will work wonders on your vinyl rub rail. Did mine for the first time last summer and my Cat is 3 years older than yours.

Rub Rail

My rub rail seems tan in color. Will they clean up to be a different color ? The rub rails on current models are grey.

Catalina Yachts Parts Department has the rub rail in either grey or tan. Easy to install and about a buck a foot. Good Luck

Try Catalina Direct also

they have alot of replacement parts for catalina boats. My understanding on replacine the rub rail is to get it warm... like placing it in a warm bucket of water with a little dish soap. Or if you can wait til summer lay it out in the sun for awhile...There's probably somethin in the archives about it..I hear it's not that hard to do..
