New Rubrails
A friend and I installed new rubrails on our boats this spring, mine an ODAY 28 and his an ODAY 35. We got everything from Rudy, including advice, which was okay, but didn't prepare us for the total amount of physical effort required. First, make sure you are not alone. Two, fill all the old holes with caulk and DON'T use 3M. The flexible stuff from West Marine or anyone else is more than adequate. Also caulk the new holes as you install the rail. The plastic rail is sent rolled in the reverse direction and it takes a lot of effort straightening it all out. We believe that it takes a heat gun, not a hair dryer, to make those turns and we're still not sure about the poper technique, but persevere and it will look great. You will also end up adding strength to the hull-to-deck joint (all those extra screws). Installation of the rubber insert itself is fairly straightforward and you don't have to be very gentle.
