Rub rail backing--replacement

I need to replace a 5' section of rub rail on our 82 Oday 34. I know that D&R has the rub rail base, but I believe it is a 27' section. I only need 5'. Our local West Marine manager and I went through their "order-only" rub rail profiles from TACO. One of the profiles appears darn near the same as the on on D&R, and is available in a 10' section. Anybody use a rub rail base from West Marine in lieu of the sections from D&R. WOuld appreciate your assessment and recommendation. Thanks Chess

Rub rail

When I got my boat, it came with a small section of vinyl rubrail to replace the aluminum that was damaged (about a 5' section). So, now I have almost an entire boat work of perfectly good aluminum rubrail that I'm trying to find a match to. The vinyl will work, but I just don't think I want a white piece sticking out like that. Anyway, I think the small section came from Rudy. I haven't really paid much attention to even see if it's a match or not. If you have any luck finding aluminum that matches, let me know!

I have the same problem with my O'Day 28. Only need a few feet of rub rail base If anyone has replaced some of it with something other than the long pieces that D&R sells, I am excited to learn about it.

This was posted not too long ago about rubrails. I contacted one of the guys about aluminum oday rails and he said they only had vinyl that would work.

Rub Rail - replacing just a section

Sure appreciate the note; the profile for the rub rail backing on our 34 is significantly different that the picture...both the top edge and bottom edge are perpendicular to the side to of the boat... sure appreciate the assistance. Great to have a team of Oday sailors out there willing to help-out. Chess on the Chesapeake.

Rub Rail follow-up

Chuck, Thanks for the rub rail offer. The profile for your 222 rail would not fit - I would have loved to take it off your hands. Deb and Rudy at D&R set me up with two 5' sections that took care of my problem. Thanks for the insight and offer...really appreciate the interaction and lessons learned off the ODay forum!
