On some models I have seen small screws in the underside of the rubrail, apparently factory installed. The Darcy website mentions having a problem with it coming off in ocean conditions but I don't remember how he fixed it. Using 5200 seems like a bad idea because a rubrail is something that gets replaced eventually. I'll ask the owners group what they use if anything, and get back to you.
I have a 78 Cal 2-29. My rub rail was installed with stainless screws from the bottom into the hull to deck joint. They are about every foot. This was done at the factory on this boat. They are a large pan head type phillips screw, about 3/4" long.
