i am trying to sprue up my 26x and finding it difficult to brighten up the black on the cabin. also i was using well water to clean the hull and decks and it must have iron in it, because when i used and mild bleach solution to remove some stains it stianed the deck brown! any suggestions?

Yes, common problem

Lemon juice or Oxalic acid will brighten your deck. Menards, Lowes, Home Depot sell a product called DeckClense I believe. It's a gel and look for Oxalic acid, not bleach. Steve P.

Thanks

thanks i will give it a try on the stains but do you think it will bring back the black?

No

I tried to brighten my black. It is Gel coat on most models so a light wet sanding or polishing might do it. Only avenue left after that is to repaint. One idea, get some futura or other acrylic floor wax in liquid form. Clean with ammonia and then apply the liquid wax with a small cloth. If this brings back your shine investigate a product on the web called "POLYGLOW". It is acrylic floor wax with a UV inhibitor and really works wonders on Gel coat. My old boat shines like new now. Island Girl

While expensive, I can recommend the Island Girl system for fiberglass restoration. http://www.islandgirlproducts.com/ The site looks low-budget, but the products really work. I used them to completely restore my faded, oxadizing hull. And yess it works wonderfully for removing chalkyness from dark gelcoat colors like black, blue, or red. Actually it also removes chalkyness from white or lite gelcoat, but the result is the most dramatic with dark colors. The minimum products you would need are SeaGlow, SilkenSeal, and SB Superwax. There are great videos and typed step-by-step instructions on their website. If your hull has a lot of oxidation, you will need more SeaGlow. Maybe three 16 oz bottles to do the whole hull. And believe me, once you do part of your hull, you'll want to do the rest. This stuff even removes deep set-in stains, like that yellowing that builds up around the waterline. Check out a pic of my boat as I was partway through using SeaGlow here: http://www.mnagy.net/mac21/index.php?categoryid=4&p17_sectionid=4&p17_imageid=15 Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with Island Girl, I just think that their products really work since they did for me.

Dark colors too

Here's a pic (not that great, but hey) that shows before and after of the IG system on dark colors. http://www.mnagy.net/mac21/index.php?categoryid=4&p17_sectionid=4&p17_imageid=16 The starboard side of the boat has the full treatment, and the port side has zilch. Pay attention to the blue stripe. The part right on the point of the bow and a little to port has only received SeaGlow treatment. The starboard side stripe looks white because it is reflecting the drop-cloth on the ground under that side of the boat. The port side stripe reflects nothing because it was so chalked over.
