Slow

I decided to redo a couple systems and as usual, it takes time. I wanted to have access to the fuel tank without removing the engine. Well, the tank I choose is a Tempo 18 gal and I can get it under the quarter berth. So that means the batteries have to go elsewhere along with the AC panel. I moved the AC panel to the small space between the drawers and the nav station. I moved the batteries to the space under the bottom of the lazarette. I'm now working on the shelf for the fuel tank to set on and paint the engine compartment, and THEN I'll be ready to install the new engine. Also I installed a new prop shaft, repacked the packing and new prop. I think in a couple of weeks I'll be installing the engine. Thanks for asking about my project. Royce

Wow

Sounds like lots of good stuff. Did you do all the specs etc for the new shaft and prop yourself, or did you have someone do it? I'll need to do all that also, and that worries me more than installing the engine. I'm still in limbo out here. Got the old engine out, but it's too cold for me, so I'll be postponing until probably March. Keep us updated. John

Prop shaft

My old prop shaft was the original bronze shaft on the boat. I needed to shorten the shaft by about 3" to increase for and aft clearance for the new engine. I decreased the length of the 1.5" hose for the packing gland and I also decreased the length of the packing gland itself. I'm installing a Vetus m310, a 22hp, 3 cyclinder engine. I could have gotten by on the 2 cyclinder engine and thus a shorter for and aft measurment, but I got such a good deal on this that I couldn't pass it up. I made a new shaft from 316 SS shaft material. I have done all this with the boat in the water. What are you repowering with John?

That would be great

I have a 78H30. Just removed the YSM12. I would love to see some pictures, I'll look forward to it. Thanks, John

Finally!

Here's the photo of the packing assembly. I just made everything as short as I thought I could get away with. I took the picture before I cleaned the engine compartment. My next step is to paint it.
