Rotating Gooseneck Modification Ideas?

I have a 1979 Seafarer 30 with a boom that rotates for reefing. I do not use the rotating boom for reefing. Because of the gooseneck design, the tack bracket sits well aft of the mast. The sail is not cut to accomodate this set back of the tack bracket. This system also introduces reefing issues. I have in the past mounted ram hooks on the cast part of the gooseneck for slab reefing. The location of the ram hooks introduces stress on the sail.

Have any of you owners of rotating booms had any success with any modifications to this sort of gooseneck to relocate the tack bracket and reef hooks. I see where D&R Marine has a tack bracket with a reef hook that may be an option. I am open to any ideas.

You can also see that my gooseneck is rigged on a slide with a downhaul. My main sail attaches to the mast with slugs.

Rig-rite sells a combination main tack and reef hook assembly that fits under the bolt (pin) that mounts the boom toggle to the mast. You can see them on their web page. Just size it to diameter of the pin. ie: 1/2 inch. You will also need a longer pin to accomodate this assembly.

I just looked up the tack attachment on the D&R Marine web site. It is similar to the Rig-Rite product but at a significant cost savings. If the one offered is beefy enough for your application I would certaintly go with D&R.

I used to use a line from the reef cringle, around the goose neck and to a cleat on the mast. It sounds a little jury rigged - and it is - but it worked fine.

That looks like it would work.... install a strap with a ring through the reef cringle to make it easier to hook in the tack when reefing.
