Just taken delivery of a "new" 1978 27'. Sails are nearly new & it has a working Yanmar diesel. Hull is great.
The bad: two stanchions have come away on port side and the holes have led to standing water in cabin for a number of years.
My initial repair list included patching the 2 holes, replace bulkheads which are rotted at the bottom and sides (but remarkably solid at chainplates) and recoring the deck where the chainplates go through, and at the foredeck and a couple of areas on the cabin top. The area under the tabernacle seem solid and I think this is sold glass?
But now, having pumped the cabin dry, I'm confronted with a squelching from the floor. On removing the bilge cover plate, it looks like the cabin sole has lifted from the bilge, leaving a small gap and the 8 woodscrews (!) that kept it attached now have nothing to screw into. I'm thinking on replacement rather than recoring the sole as I want to find out how much water has got under the floor. Has anyone else suffered this problem and how was it tackled? Are there stringers under the cabin sole and are (were) they wood?I've spent a day searching the web but can find anything about the construction in this area.
