So I asked about this once before and was advised to get Garhauer parts but before I do I have some more questions. I want to replace the clutch on the port side with a quad unit to replace the triple. If I go with OEM(spinlock?) would the mounting holes match up? Will I then need a new deck organizer for four lines? The pulley at the base of the mast is called what? The clutch on the starboard has a broken lever(handle). Can these be rebuilt? I am attaching pics of all items in question. Are any or these items available on this site?

thanks for the help.

That looks like a Garhauer organizer. You can get one that stacks on top of the existing one if you want to add a line. Since it's on the port side, I'm guessing you have one for your jib halyard. If you have a furling jib, consider eliminating bringing it back. We did, and simply tension the jib halyard once and use a line pennant at the foot of the jib to the furling drum to tighten the jib luff. But you also stack the organizers.

The holes don't matter for the clutches, since you'll either have tapped holes in your deck or will have to drill new ones either through the deck or new taps into the metal plate you may have underneath, you didn't say.

Instead of buying a quad clutch set, we simply added one more clutch to a pair we already had, which is also an option for you. We had a double Garhauer and added a Spinlock SPA in 1999. Simply drilled two new holes through, bedded and backed underneath. The bolts are in shear (sideways stress) so the tapped holes are not an issue either way.

" We did, and simply tension the jib halyard once and use a line pennant at the foot of the jib to the furling drum to tighten the jib luff". I really don'tknow what this means. I do have a furling jib and would like to eliminate bringing the halyard back( the main halyard also). I have no method to keep the halyards tensioned other than the rope clutch. My old boat had winches on the mast and I just cleated off the halyards on the mast.

Thanks-this is probably the way I will go if I can figure out how to eliminate bringing the jib halyard back to the cockpit.

Assuming your jib halyard comes out of the mast above the boom, one easy way is to install a cam cleat on the mast a foot or so below where it comes out and a regular cleat below that. You run the halyard through the sheaves as you currently have it, all the way to the winch. No need to run it through the clutch. Winch up the jib. When it's good and tight where you want it, with the cam cleat holding the tension on the halyard, pull the halyard out of the sheaves and secure it on the regular cleat below the cam cleat. Coil the rest of the line and attach to the cleat on the mast. You can then use the sheaves, the line clutch and the winch for whatever you want to bring to the cockpit. And you don't need to re-do the organizer. Good luck.
