Need help, did not remove jib while in water. Now boat is on stands and wind yesterday was blowing up to 20 mph and something told me not to try it then. Can I remove the jib safely, wait till a calm day if it comes or is it up for winter? Thanks

You have to roll up the jib as you unfurl it. It the wind fills the sail it could bring your boat down!

Steve, assuming your jib is on a furler...
it is safe to leave it up as long as you secure the sail in a way that the wind will not catch it, causing it to unwind and wreak havoc. It is best to remove it, and as Fred says, during a calm day. If you decide to leave it up during the winter, remove your jib sheets, then rope tie wrap above and below the clew cringle to secure it for the winter. Terry

Droop, Good idea, I maybe able to do that, although it may be hard to keep the top rolling up. PS I have a roller furler and the boat is 26feet.

Mine does not allow the removal of sails once the boat is on stands. If that's not the case with your's, Fred said all there is to say....

If you don't want to take it down, wrap a short bungy around the centerpoint and grab both jib lines. It will be fine.

Steve, You don't want to leave it for the winter. Sails age fast enough in summer. My suggestion is to first remove the sheets. Then by hand unfurl the sail. Letting the sail fly in the wind, In other words, let it luff. Put no pressure on the sail to control the flapping. This would put pressure on your Jack stands. Slip the sail from the furler, Ball it up and take it someplace to flake it and roll it up for the winter. Like Fred said, the calmer the better. r.w.landau

You can roll it all the way up to the top. You roll it vertically just behind the forestay. I seen somebody doing it before and asked,"what the heck is he doing. Someone told me that how you get the jib off when the boats on the hard.
