Hello Mike C. are you out there? I know this is hard to belive but we are booking our vacation for next year and was wondering if you have a date for the 2009 rOnDAYvous? We would love to come again. Hope every one is doing well.

Boy, do I like the gist of your thinking, Scott! The 2008 sailing season's not even done yet, and already you're focusing on next year's rOnDAYvous. That's the spirit!
Bob's right on the money. As far as I can recall, the rOnDAYvous has always been held on the second weekend of July (making somewhere around the 10th to the 15th, give or take). This way it doesn't jam up anyone's 4th of July plans, Around Long Island Regatta plans, or very much else. It usually seems to be a dead spot in most sailing calendars, so we might as well fill it.
The location is still up in the air, although the floor has been open for nominations since we left Chelsea. So far we've been to the Sound (City Island), NY Harbor (Liberty Landing), the Sound (Black Rock Harbor), Raritan Bay (Raritan YC), the Sound (Milford Landing), and the Hudson (Chelsea YC). I'm always on the lookout for new sites. (I have to say, though, that when Janis and I were up in Milford in late July, the folks at Milford Landing remembered the rOnDAYvous very vividly, and asked, "So when are you folks coming back? We'd love to have you.")
Ideas, anyone?

The rOnDAYvous is a must do for next year. We are trying to book our main vacation with two other familes from town in Lake George next summer. The reservation system to camp and boat off the islands is absolutely cut throat. Did not want to double book ourselves. Thanks Rad, Mike and Pete

Seneca Lake is worth a look.
You might try looking at the Finger Lakes in NYS. The Northeast hobie cat regatta last year on Seneca Lake at Geneva. This year there was the Star Class Western Hemisphere Championship and Thistle Great Lakes Championship Regatta hoisted by the Seneca Lake Yacht Club.
There is a Ramada Inn on the water and a Hampton Inn across the street and other hotels. Near by is a boat launch at the chamber of commerce. Transite Docks are available next to the hotel and launch. Across the lake is the Yacht Club and also a State Marina (another launch and some docks) and a Stiver's Marina. I would think the City of Geneva would be happy to hoist the event.
In addition, there are 45 wineries around the lake including the Belhurst Castle which is a luxury hotel, restaurant, and winery. It has a dock where you can pull up to and eat or do some wine tasting.

The 28's to 40's would have a tough time sprouting wheels,
but a "flotilla" down the Thruway would be quite a site.
The Bartlett's put in a vote for Fall River, or Block Island. We would like to go in the opposite direction and we may pick up some of those Narragansett Bay O'Days.

New kid on the Block
It's really early to make an ironclad commitment, but I'd certainly be open to Block Island. I've never been there, and would love to check it out, and I suspect it'd be more enjoyable than Fall River (as well as a teenie bit closer).
That being said, the South Shore option that RAD mentioned also sounded kinda tasty, all things being equal.
In any case, let's keep thinking about it and talking about it, and maybe by the first of the year we'll have it all figured out.

How about the Mystic Ct. area?
Noank Shipyard at the end of the Mystic river is in a beautiful area. Their sister marina Seaport Marine (which may have more transient space) is up the river in just south of town and has a great dock with dock house for the gathering. Lots to do too. The GMs are very nice and fun loving folks. With all of the boats that attend perhaps a bulk rate could be negotiated.
