I am having problems with the roller reefing system on my O'Day 272. It is very stiff and I need to use a winch to furl the jib when there is any pressure on the jib. It reads on the furling reel "Reefer I, Cruising Design". I have taken the system apart (with some difficulity) and in so doing find that several of the splice plates between the foils are bent and that the plastic bearings are worn. Can I get new splice plates and plastic bearings? Also the main bearing at the base of the system is worn and may need replacement. Is there a source for parts?? Appreciate your assistance. Charlie

...is your source for parts, but unfortunately they report that the torque links are discontinued. They now sell the foil as one continuous piece, doing away with the links. When I had this problem, they advised me to cut a couple of links in half and use these half-length pieces to serve the purpose. (I needed one because I dropped it in the drink!). You can put a pop rivet in the foil to keep the shortened link from falling below the level of the joint. I also had some bad parts (broken bearing) in the furler, and just, a couple of weeks ago, bit the bullet and replaced the lower unit with their replacement. You'll see it on their web site. I think it cost about $300. You may look at the options and decide to go for the entire unit, foil and all, in the neighborhood of $600 I think.

Thanks Lou Price on the web site is $772.00 plus $158.00 for the ball bearing option. I might be able to use half pieces of the torque links but also need the plastic bearing pieces so a replacement may be in order. Always something to spend money on but that's what boating is. We also have lots of good times and this makes it worthwile (I think). Charlie

I am now looking at either repairing or replacing my binnacle compass, and also considering making new Lexan companionway hatch boards, as the boards that came with the boat (I bought it two years ago) were pretty beat. Once I take care of these items, I'm sure there'll be something else!
