The original Oday documentation for my Javelin contains a reference to using a 'Claw' to reef the main when it is rolled onto the boom. I have been unsuccessful in finding one for sale in any of the marine supply houses. My local contacts have never seen or heard of a roller reefing claw. Does anyone know where I might obtain one or perhaps find a good drawing that I could use as a template to build one ?

I don't know but....

I'd love to find one also... It would make that whole system functional. While you're at it could you come up with a way to attach the vang too? How about a pair of concave wooden or metal blocks with padding inside to protect the sail that could be clamped on tightly enough to the boom to attach a pulley for the vang and yet not damage or distort the boom?

Hello Bob: I had a claw that came wih my Coronado25. I only used it as a preventer. It was shapped like a symetrical O, with the top three inches open. About eight inches in diameter, half inch thick and the body about one and a half inches wide. On the top, at the cutout, there were two soft rubber pucks about three inches in diameter. It appeared to be made of metal and was coverd in a clear yellowish poly. You used it by attaching a line to the bottom of the O and sliding it onto the boom from aft end. I then tied the line off to stantion base as a preventer. I suppose the soft pucks would be there to bear against the sail for roller reefing. I had slab reefing. Anyway, know how to ruin an Afghani bingo game? B-52 Good luck red
