I'm new to sailing, so this may be a dumb question. How does the Roller furling work? I'm thinking that there must be a line that needs to be pulled to unlock the roller mechanism so that the sail can be pulled out. Or else when you had only part of the sail out the wind would pull it out the rest of the way. Thanks Greg

Gee, I agree with George, take lessons. You'll learn more in a few days of lessons that in a summer of sailing. The ASA classes teach the really important things like docking, man over board (MOB), who has right of way, basic navigation and basic boat safety. They will also teach you about your boat, sail trim and how a roller furing works. I'm sure you have many options on the Chesapeake. If you have a significant other take the lessons together. It's fun and a great investment. George, we took our sailing lessons with Bay Breeze in Traverse City. We've chartered with them a couple of times in addition to the lessons. The furling line reels the sail in, releasing this line and pulling on a sheet (depending on which side you want the sail on) unfurls the sail.

Thanks everybody. I did take basic sailing lessons a long long time ago but the sails at that time were hanked on. I never did get a boat back then due to other responsibilities but now I'm in the market again. Hopefully its true that you are never to old to learn. Thanks again Greg
