I am in the market for a roller furler for my Santana 35, and would be interested in any comments the group may have on Spin-tec, CDI, and Superfurl. All of the others cost more than I want to pay. Thanks for any comments/experience with these three that you may have.

Check out Bamar

see related link. I love mine and it was a great price.

The Famet System

These are simple, bullet proof systems that can be installed by the owner without any modification to the fore stay. Rated very high by Practical Sailor. NO bearings. Really designed for cruising. I have no interest in the company. Link below

Spin-tec

Spin-tec is a great unit which is heavy duty enough for a 50 ft+ vessel.

My CDI was easy to install and use

and served me for lots of years on my Catalina 22. It comes with an incredible warranty. A friend had his come loose from his tie down on his mast while he was towing his Precision 23. The drum got pretty screwed up bouncing off the pavement at 70 mph, and when he finally realized it was bouncing around he stopped. Don't think he has any idea how long it was bouncing off the highway. But CDI replaced it at no charge! Also, the badly damaged drum still worked but was very messed up. Guess that speaks well for CDI. Presently, I have a Harken on my Hunter and it, too, works great! You will enjoy the Roller Furling, regardless of your choice of brand. Beats the hell out of hanks!!!

Answer partly depends on use intended

Robert What do you want to do with your furler and your boat? If the three you mentioned are all you are willing to afford, then you've almost answered your own question, because it seems to me that in furlers, you DO get what you pay for. W/your Santana 35, don't know if you're planning to race. Harken gets a heads up for racing. I love our ProFurl on our Catalina 34, but am not a died in the wool racer. ProFurl does have a racing version. I know this didn't answer your limited questions, but it seems that what the use will be is one of the key elements of the choice you have to make. Good luck, Stu

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I will be cruising and daysailing, not racing, but I want to be able to change sails easily. I will look into Reefurl and Bamar in more detail.
