I have a 1988 Cat 30 TR that has the Hood continuous line (or loop) roller furling. In a nutshell, I hate it. It seldom works smoothly or without a tremendous amount of effort and brute force. I have reconditioned it, keep it clean and lubricated and check all fittings before sailing. I have learned that Hood now makes a replacement fitting for this continuous line (loop)system that converts it to the more customary single line roller furling system. But, the internal mechanics of the system do not appear to be much different. Has anoyone out there installed this replacement furler on their boat? Does it work any better? I'd like to know before investing the $500. Thanks

Hood Replacement

I replaced the continuous line Hood system with the single line system because the original wouldn't hold in heavy weather. The single line replacement worked well for me.

Hate it also

I also have the continuous line and hate it because it often does not hold in heavy weather which, of course, is just when you want it. I would be interested to know how difficult the replacement is.
