roller furling trouble

My roller furling broke loose during a bad storm and now the edges are all frayed and miserable looking. The sail part seems to be fine - not torn.Any thoughts as to whether I can/should use it this season and then have it fixed in the fall.Also suggestions as to where to have it fixed.Thanks,Mary

For those who might respond, I would suggest a little more detail on what broke or what is wrong. If the sail is fine, is the problem with the furling mechanics or something else? Please provide more info. Thanks.

Mary, Ron is right about a better explaniation of

what was hurt. If it was sail only then I would have the local sail loft look at it and repair. Sailing with a marginal, or damaged sail could cost needless repairs or even replacement. If you are comfortable in assessing the damage yourself then maybe some good sail repair tape from West Marine or similar shop would fill the bill for this year. The better or best brands of sail tape are very, very sticky and hold like a bulldog. Other than that type of fix you need a pro as replacement jib sails, with the roller furling set-up, are spendy.RayS/V Speedy

Never wait !!!

My premise has always been, If I need to ask wether it should be fixed, then fix it!The last place you want problems is at sea, when the smallest distraction or problem can be very costly....to both equipment and people.Wether your problem is sail or the furler, have a qualified sial loft take a quick look and make their recomendation. The few dollars it might cost you for an expert opinion may very well pay for itself by saving a life.Now this may seem over-exaggeration, but I lean towards safety first, and your sails/rigging are the most important items on your boat!
