Roller furling trouble

The rotating drum on my old "Flexible Furler" (it doesn't look like a CDI but it might be) will not stay seated in the aluminum cup. Most furlers I think have a "luff support pin" to keep the drum from riding up the plastic strip/forestay when the jib is unrolled doing its business. My drum rides up the luff and the bolt rope in the jib actually rides down out of the groove in the plastic strip. The internal halyard rides in a groove on the opposite side of this plastic strip and is attatched to the furling drum.
My question is how the heck do I keep the drum seated in the aluminum can. Tension on the furling line doesn't do the job at all. There is a place at the top of the drum(picture) that looks like it would hold a pin, but there is no hole through the plastic luff strip. I considered drilling a hole there(hopefully I wouldnt damage the forestay which runs inside this strip), but Im hopeing there is an easy answer to this. Any advice is appreciated.

That doesn't look right.. You've got the furling line (or something) wrapped around the wrong part of the spool. Compare your setup with this http://www.sailcdi.com/sailpdf/FF1 manual 7_06.pdf

The tack of the jib is attached to the drum with the same type of line as the furling line but they are attached separately. The pic looks like its all the same line. But my question is, how to keep the drum secure in the cup.

According to the manual that Joe supplied, it looks like the cup is held up by screws from below and into the furling drum. The lead line then goes through an opening in the cup.

I have a different model than the FF1. The screws in the bottom of the cup hold a round plastic peg that the drum sits down onto and rotates around. If the screws went into the drum or any kind of line is used to hold down the drum in the cup it couldnt rotate.

it looks like your furling line should come out of the hole in the cup (to the right in your 1st picuture). The hole you say may need drilled, looks like a pin could go through there if the drum were down 3 inches lower so that the line could come out of the hole in the cup. Then the pin would probably slide in under the luff strip. Doesn't the drum go down that far?

Doesn't look exactly like a CDI

But very similar. The line should be wrapped around inside the drum, not above it, and come out through the hole in the can. On my CDI, there is a clip, with a couple of screws under the can, that holds things together, and keeps the can in alignment.

The pin that goes through the hole in the second pic should be under the plastic luff extrusion. Lift up the extrusion; slide the pin in and lower the extrusion so it sits on top of the pin. That will keep the drum down in the metal drum enclosure.

I didnt realize the plastic luff could rise up the forstay, knew it was something simple. Thanks for the advise Sam!
