My roller furler gets stuck and becomes very hard to take in or release. The roller furling system is original. Does anyone have experience troubleshooting and fixing this problem?

Mine was doing the same thing and last year started wrapping the halyard at the top. I have the original Hood unit. Over the years it developed multiple problems. First, there was a "puck" that goes around the stay and the drum rides on it to keep it above the turnbuckle. Also the bushing between the drum unit and the extrusion had disintegrated. Up top I ended up installing a halyard restrainer on the mast changing the angle of the halyard to the top roller. Test sail this weekend and she was smooth as silk.
