Have any Hunter 46.6 owners replaced the Selden Furlex Jib System? I have significant problems with the plastic furing line drum and am considering replacing the system with a Shaffer or Harkin furler. Any thoughts?
I have the Furlex on the Bavaria 38E for the 20 yr I’ve owned her and it was there before then. (Since 1999). I’ve more or less kept it lubricated and have treated the plastic with ArmorAll and 303, and have taken it apart a couple of times for inspection when having problems. I once discovered a broken part internal which I replaced. When I got the boat the furler had evidently been rigged with some incorrectly-sized line off the shelf somewhere. Probably the Dealer did that from what I have heard. I ordered and installed the Selden furling line, which yes is $$$. The furler still works fine but it wouldn’t be w/o the inspection and maintenance I describe. Before tossing it, it might be less expensive for you to take it apart and inspect for worn or broken part(s) and lost screws that might have fallen out, etc. Also, one should treat the furling line, say every year or couple of years, by soaking in Woolite solution overnight followed by a couple of rinses.Have any Hunter 46.6 owners replaced the Selden Furlex Jib System?
