I have a 1988 272 ODAY with a broken roller furling. The furling has no information on it as to make or model but I believe it was on the boat when purchased new. Does anyone know if the 1988's came with roller furlings installed and what the make and model were? It looks like I may be able to fix it if I can order some new connectors or, I may have to try to manufacture something on my own. Any suggestoins? Thanks

Paddy, My 1986 272 has the original CDI (Cruising Design, Inc.) roller furler. I've ordered parts from CDI, although it was not easy to find them on the web. Below is a link to their site. I imagine this is the equipment on your '88 as well. Be warned that several parts for older units are out of stock, but they are good people to deal with, and will be helpful, I'm sure. Good luck!

I don't think they've got those...
I needed one of those too, as I dropped one in the drink disassembling my furler taking it down to run a new halyard into the top fitting. When I called to ask about it, I was told they had no more of those as they now sell a one-piece foil. They suggested cutting one in half which I did. It worked fine. I put a pop rivet in the extrusion section to provide a stop for the bottom end of the shortened connector. Works fine, now two years later. It is also possible that you'll find one if you post a notice on line, as I'm sure there are folks who replaced their original CDI furler with another unit and kept the old parts.

Hi, You mention that you need connectors for the aluminum extrusions. The CDI furler has a flexible extrusion that is made from a plastic, so if you are looking for aluminum extrusion connectors then I doubt (but I could be wrong) the furler is a CDI. CDI furlers are economical,and easy to install. good luck. Eric

Hi, Sorry, CDI may have made an aluminum furler as the link from lou indicates. I should have said CDI Flexible Furler. That is the one I have, and it is very simple, economical, and now can come with bearings for larger boats. Mine is the FF2.
