roller furling performance vs jib

I have a UK Passagemaker 150 genoa on a Furlex reefing furler. It has a foam luff to improve performance when reefed. How much better would a standard 110 jib work than the 150 rolled up to a 110? Thank you, Barry

RF Reefing

Barry, Generally, I tell my customers that RF genoas can be reefed down about 25-30%. In other words a 150% genoa can still be an effective sail when reefed to 120%. Beyond that the luff gets too short and the sail is usually too deep even with a luff pad. For this reason we rarely recommend RF genoas larger than 135%, except for very light air areas. Also a 150% Genoa is much harder to tack efficiently than a 135% or smaller. If you are having to reef your genoa down more than 50% of the time I think you sould consider purchasing a smaller sail and saving the 150 for those particlarly light wind days. Thanks, Bill C.
