Roller furling messenger line sticking

Each year it gets harder and harder to hoist up our jib with the messenger rope for the roller furling (CDI). Should it be this hard? Just seems it gets stuck about 3/4 of the way up each spring and takes all our might to finish pulling it up the rest of the way. Is there some lubricant or maintenance that helps this problem or what??? We replaced the line about 3 years ago and worked fine the first year but has gotten more difficult. Any suggestions are appreciated.

CDI

My first CDI which came with the boat had an old CDI reefer 7-continuous line. Hoisting the sail was next to impossible. When the mast was removed over the winter I checked on top and found the plastic pulley distingrated and I replaced it. Next year it was easier, but still difficult. I found that waiting for a dead calm day made a BIG difference. I just installed a new CDI and we will see if this one is easier. I hope other people respond with input as I am also interested.

Gummed up track

Some times stuff builds up inside the track. Put a knot in a 3/16" (might be 1/8")line and run it up and down to breakup the junk on the inside of the track. Then dip the knot in some liquid car wax and run it up and down. You want to make sure you polish the inside of the track. If you don't, stuff will build up again. r.w.landau
