When I put up the mast (my first time) I messed up how to rig up the roller furling. Now I have a line dangling from the top about 2 ft and the drum doesn't turn. The only ID on the thing says flexible furling.
Since I am doing this all solo, I didn't want to take the mast down to try again. Would it be a feasible option to try to uninstall the roller furling enough so that I can try to rig it correctly or will I have to take it all down to try to get it right?
Thanks for any suggestions. Obviously I'm very new at this.

Hard to tell

If you have inadvertently pulled the jib halyard too high, try to take a bosun's chair up the mast and swing over to pull it down. Take a book hook with you to reach it.

If the problem is more complex, ask the next guy you bump into on the dock. We've all snared our share of these things and he might be able to figure it out better on the scene. Often the problem is easily fixed.

Re: Hard to tell

Is the jib halyard what I attach to the top to the jib? What do I do with the other end?

The CDI Flexible Furler has an internal halyard. You pull down on the line sticking out on the leading edge while you feed the jib luff into the furler track from the bottom on the trailing edge. When I remove my jib at the end of the season I attach a line to this internal halyard because it gets pulled up and out-of-reach as the jib is pull down and off.

The furler itself replaces the jib halyard so you should not have it attached to the jib.

There is a shackle on each side of the drum. One for the tack of the jib, and one to tie off the internal halyard when the jib is pulled all the way up.

Should the furler track (that's what I feed the sail into?) face toward the front or rear of the boat?
Any suggestions about how to get the line back into the drum at the bottom so it reels in?
Thanks again for helping!

The drum and track rotate as a unit. The track will end up facing aft just because of the jib sheets.

If the line is still attached to the drum then just manually turn the drum to roll the furling line back up.

There is no spring or any other mechanism that controls the drum. Pulling a jib sheet brings the jib off the furler and winds the furling line up on the drum. Pulling the furling line off the drum winds the jib back up on the furler track.
