I have a 1997 Hunter 336. When it rains water trickles down into the cabin from the mast. I do have a rooler furling main. I was curions to know if any of you have run into this problem. If so how did you remedy it. As the mast continues down through the cabin there is a hole for wiring going up the mast. When it rains I get a steady drip of water leeking into the cabin right above the table. I was also curious to know if any of you had problems with water filling up the Mast (that continues into the keel) with water. I would appriciate any information.... Thanks, Charley

Not a keel stepped mast
Charley, To start with the, 1997 Hunter 336 has a deck stepped mast and the part that you see inside the cabin is a compression post. The leaking that you are experiencing is a result of water entering the mast, flowing down the wiring and directly into the cabin. Hunter eliminated that problem on newer models by running the wiring out of the base of the mast and into a separate wiring box, then into the boat. I had the same problem on my 1995 336 and basically mimicked the way the newer Hunters are wired. The mast step on the deck has several notches that I was able to run my wiring out of once I cut a corresponding notch in my mast. I ran the wiring out of the base of the mast and over to the wiring box. (I believe it is made by Selden, though you should be able to get it from Hunter.) I also capped the old wiring hole in the mast step with a standard size PVC cap. Leak problem solved!!!

I welded a 6" long 1" dia conduit upright to the base of my mast step and drilled a hole in the bottom of the mast step for wiring. no way water can run down the wire..
