This weekend I am going to "attempt" to install CDI roller furling on my Catalina 27. I have several sails that will fit however none of them have UV protection and instead of putting it on each sail I would like to have a cover to put over the headsail no matter which one I choose to put on. Does anyone have a recommendation on where to get a cover made or has someone made their own and can help me with measurements and how to. the length will need to be about 39 FT since it is a tall mast. Thanks for any help.

Any canvas shop that can work on tarps or awnings in St.Louis should be able to handle that. Just give them the dimensions and the color of Sunbrella. Jeff

Do yourself a favor and hire a"real" rigger. This is not as easy as they say.I gave up hired a guy who told me he had installed many of these and..........It still does not work correctly.

Just Installed A CDI Furler on My Hunter
The CDI was not easy to install. But don't be discourged. If your handy at mechanical things you will be able to do it. It took me three times to the boat to finish the job. Let me know how it went for you.

I installed a CDI FF4 on my Hunter 25.5 about 6 months ago. It's not the easiest thing in the world to do, but I did get it done. Just follow the instructions carefully. You will need another set of hands for several parts of the installation. I had two helpers. We finished the job in about 4 hours.

Furler installation
Gary, Well - I have nothing really to offer you on your actual question. I just wanted to jump in and say "thank God" someone else had problems installing their furlers. I consider myself above average mechanically inclined and the installation of the furler on my Catalina 22 was really a catastrophe. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong ;{ (from the sailmaker putting on the wrong luff tape to the thread cutter for drilling a new hole into the mast snapping off halfway inside the mast). We are now at a stopping point ;D - I have the new forestay installed (yep, ended up twisted and destroyed) and happily, graciously, lovingly hank on all my old sails and enjoy actually sailing. At some point, the sailmaker (who took responsibility for their part) will send my sail back with the right luff tape and I will muster the courage (in the next year or so) to try it again. Just good to hear someone else struggled - the "it is the easiest thing I've ever done" posts across the rest of the board had me convinced that I was a complete moron. SJK SENDS
