Cover details

I made the cover based on a Sailrite kit. The standard kit isn't quite right, though. My cover needed to be 25', so it takes three zippers. I measured from the bottom to where the lines come off and that was the length of the bottom zipper (54" in my case). Subtract 6" for space between adjoining zippers for the remaining zips. The upper two zippers zip down, and the bottom zipper zips up. Besides the basic zippered tube, you need to control the flapping. I sewed two D-rings half-way around every two feet. Then parachute cord laced away from the zipper which you tighten after hauling the sleeve up. I also use the D-rings to strap the furled jib to the mast for trailer-sailing. With the furler, I have the jib halyard available for hoisting, and for trailering, the sleeve makes more sense for me, but there are considerations such as stowing and the extra time it takes (it's actually very quick to raise and lower). I did add a cleat to the mast when there's nobody to haul up the halyard. The sleeve makes more sense for my situation, as opposed to a sacrificial strip, but I knew I had to do something to keep the jib around awhile, and I'm very happy with the way this eventually turned out.
