Oday 22 Why Knot
I plan to replace my forestay this winter and am considering going to a ruller furling headsail. I'd appreciate hearing any advice or experience you may have on this regarding the older O'Day trailerables. What are good brands to go with, and what is an appropriate range on the cost? Any reasons not to do it?

Roller Furling

Michelle, I have an 1983 O'Day 23. This is the first boat that I have had a furling unit on ......... its a God's send ! All my previous boats I have had to go forward and take the headsail down on the foredeck and fold it so the wind didn't catch it, while inbound to the dock(not always sucessfull !). I was always worried about a furling unit getting jammed and then your reaaly stuck with 155% of canvas out and trying to dock !! But, I must admit that I was wrong and my furling unit lessens the work load. As far as brand ....... look for a company that makes the proper size for your 22'. But then remember that you have to add a UV barrier strip on your head sail, so it is protected when you roll it up. Hope this helps........ May you have smooth sailing on warm breezes !
