I'm ready to add roller furling and am buying the CDI furler. The question I have is, can I have my sail modified to meet the needs of the furling system? I have a hanked on 155 and 110. Also,any sailmakers in the area of Deale or Calvert that could do this job at a resonable cost?

A competent loft should be able to refit what you have now. Before you spend the money to do that though, make or get a serious assessment of the condition of your sail(s). It might make better sense go go new despite the added initial cost. -Ed

To convert or to buy new....
(For a Hunter 25.5) When doing the investigation of roller furling, I compared the prices of several lofts for converting our 150 to roller furling. I then had a look at the cost of a new 150 built for RF. The price difference was not that much. If your jib(s) is fairly new / in really good condition, it might be worth converting. Otherwise, it might be a good back-up sail or put it on Ebay to offset the cost on the new sail. BTW, we decided to stay with hank-on. We were looking at the safety aspects of being able to stay off of the foredeck when dropping the jib. We ended up rigging a downhaul on the jib to meet our needs.

Hi Tom. I too have 28.5 and I'm just up the road/bay from you in Deale. I have the Hood Continuous Line furler and have also thought about converting, either with the Hood upgrade or a CDI (both about the same price, give or take a few bucks). If you go with the CDI, please let me know how it works out, particularly if you are installing it yourself. Converting a sail is a labor intensive process and so I agree with others that it depends on the condition of your current sail as to whether it would be cost effective.
