My "new" Carpi 22 # 427 has roller furling. I haven't sailed it yet and the previous owner stored it with the mast up at our club on his trailer.

He hoisted the genoa with the spinnaker halyard ( jib halyard is ???? ) Anyway he did not use the sails the past few years.

Looking at the instructions for the Furlex It looks like if you go directly from the top part of the furling into the jib halyard
block ( sheave) it should be at be at a sharp angle. If not the sail may twist at the top ?

Will not be able to take the mast down for a while as it is "parked" close to other boats.

Anybody have some photo's of their furling system at the top.

Thanks

Hershey

Interesting my old 297 had fuses in the power distribution box. # 427 has one circuit breaker; 20 amps.

Can't help you with this one, I've got the Flexible Furler 2. It has a built in halyard.

I have the Schaefer SnapFurl CF-500.

Schaefer has the same recommendation about the halyard coming into the sheave at a sharp angle. See the attached for their take on it. Mine is set up as in "D" - so far so good, no problems.

Thanks for the feedback Mike;

Halyard restrainer .... That is what I thought. How did you attach yours? Pop rivets? Machine screws?/

OK I see a halyard restrainers on-line. Before I do anything I'll have to hoist the sail to see how much room I have at the top. Hopefully I do not have to have the sail cut.

What is the significance of "73 de W4HRL" ?

Thanks

My halyard restrainer is pop-rivetted in place. Machine screws and tapped mast would also be good in my book.

Your thought about needing to check jib hoist height is a good one. You can get the restrainer positioned so low that it will not let you raise the jib as high as it needs to be.

“73 de W4HRL” comes from the HAM radio world. My Amateur Radio license / callsign is W4HRL. The “73” and “de” parts come from the days of the early telegraph operators, who came up with many abbreviations and “special” numbers / words for certain standard messages and names to be able to speed up their through put - remember these guys were using the dots and dashes of Morse code. A lot of these abbreviations and “numbered phrases” have come over from the telegraph days to the spoken word radio operation.
“de” means “from”, and “73” means “regards / best regards”, and is a fairly standard "closing statement" in the radio world. So “73 de W4HRL” means “Best regards from W4HRL”.
