Sticky Furlers
Sylvio, Selden's line of Furlex furlers are certainly good quality units. Unlike some others they use steel ball bearings in the race and usually are very smooth. Here are some things you can do do solve the problem. 1. Make sure your headstay is tight. If not tighten the backstay. 2. Check to see that when the sail is completely furled there is not too much extra line on the drum. One or two extra wraps is plenty and any more than that can cause furling problems. 3. Drop the swivel and flush out the swivel race as well as the drum race with high pressure fresh water. Salt deposits and crud will be removed by the water. 4. After flushing regrease the race with a non-water soluble grease. Winch grease works great. If none of this solves the problem something in the race might possibly be worn or damaged.
