Roller Furling System

I used the hood system on my 299. Been working for 10 years. Just remember to add the preventer on the mast, to help keep the halyard from wrapping on the head stay. Fair winds friend. Fred

Schaefer no question.

John, I put a Schaefer 1000 on my S30T OUR GLORY III really a great furler. I put a Furlex on PROMISES a S34 and I not really happy. Thought Furlex had some good ideas but it did not pan out. The Furlex uses a flat foil which would give a better Luff if you are serious about go fast but the trade off is it is not nearly as easy to roll-up as with a round foil. I have also had jams (which Furlex is suppose to have fixed)which I never had on OUR GLORY III. Oh yes I installed the Scheafer myself and it was a breeze. The Furlex was professional installed with my help but could be done yourself. But my choice is Scheafer and I would trade if I could. Finally when I bought the Furlex in 2001 the Scheafer was actually a little less, don't always get what you pay for. I took a CDI off my S34 because it was way to hard to roll-up. Probably work on a 299 or S30T but not with my 150 on the 34. I think Jim Pilotte replaced his drum on the CDI as an upgrade. I did not know about that at the time. Just my opinion. Rooler furlers

I am considering purchasing an Alado furler out of Brazil. The US rep , of course, attests to his own( had it 6 years. It does have round foils but no swivel atop the mast. It is priced at $1245--significantly less that many others--for my 34. Any comments would be appreciated. Look up Alado Nautica on the net. Gracias, John aka Juan
