I have an '82 Hunter 27. It has a rolled furling headsail and I noticed when I roll the sail I only get about one or two full wraps of line around the sail. I have read that you should have a few more then that. I am not sure how to make that adjustment. Thanks!

When the sail is deployed, wrap a couple more turns of the furling line around the furling drum. Two more wraps around the drum should be two more wraps of sheets around the sail.

Hi Mike,
We added more wraps by undoing the clew while it's rolled up and wraping the sheets around the sail the desired amount. It depends what is easiest or has the most access. We also have 4-5 wraps that never comes off the drum to take the strain off the knot holding the furling line to the drum.

Mike, might be easier to bring both jib sheets up front and wrap afew more turns around the furled up jib (at this point your drum would be empty or have 1/2 to 1 turn of rope). You will notice that when you furl the jib in heavy wind, it'll roll up much tighter and if you haven't enough coil of furling rope in the drum you'll be left with some sail out when the furling rope is all drawn out.

if your jib sheets are long enough, then is easy to wrap 3 or 4 times around the furler when furled. if they are short, then the furler wont roll as much. 1-2 wraps is ok if you are in a wind free zone.

I usually wind up with a couple sheet raps from a starboard-side furl, and 3-4 from a port-side furl...or is it the other way around...? Anyway, as long as you finish the jib sheets with a figure 8 hitch back at the cockpit, your genny should be ok.
