Ed, When I first started sailing I bought all my
line and rope goods from the local "Big Brand Name" marine store. I was truely impressed at how proud they were of their products, as reflected in their pricing. When I questioned this pricing policy I was told that "these were top quality "New England" brand ropes, good enough for the rough demands required when sailing".Later in the day, and about $200 lighter, I visited the local discount sporting goods store to purchase a fishing licence. Guess what???They also sold "New England" brand line at 35% to 55% less. All sizes. That's a fact! Now I visit these types of stores first on my trip through town. I have found that most gear I need is available there with the exception being in the area of blocks, rope clutches etc. There are also dealers of line and rope products only, on the "net". They are much less if you can wait a few days.RayS/V Speedy
