Has anyone installed a rigid vang on a Pearson/other boat with mid-boom sheeting? There is a standing block on deck directly aft of the base of the mast (that leads to a turning block back to the cockpit) that would interfere with the rigid vang when it swings during tacks. Any suggestions for moving the location of the standing block that would not compromise the purchase power/physics of the sheeting? I own a Pearson 34-2. Thanks, Rognvald

Installed a Garhauer vang on 85 P-34

The post below on a P-34 Traveller has a couple of photos showing my current rig.
Here below is a photo of the wood block (Ipe) that I turned & cut @ a bevel to tilt the deck block aft and adapt from OEM Schaefer to a Garhauer. Ipe is a very hard wood with excellent thread holding. Screws need to be piloted almost as much as you would for steel, otherwise you'll break off the screw. Ideally I'd make in SS, but I run a woodworking & lumber supply business so guess what I can machine better. Ipe block has since been painted. In service 3 years, so far so good and have been out in some pretty stiff blows, probably up to 30k.
Photo here shows Schaefer traveller that was changed to Harken per the post below.
I may have a template drawn up that I could send.

Thank you for responding. The pix, however, is difficult to see the installation-a port or starboard view would be better showing the routing of the mainsheet and the supplemental vang, sheets and attachments. Best, Rognvald

Re: pics from traveller post

shorty, thanks for the new pictures. My big concern was the routing of the traveler sheet so it didn't obstruct the passage of the rigid vang on tacks. By adding a block and eye on the boom aft of the rigid vang boom attachment and directing the sheet to the base of the mast I can eliminate the standing block on the deck and not compromise purchase power. What rigid vang do you have? Any feedback? Thanks, Rognvald

Vang is

Garhauer RV20-1S 37/44 - $400 in 2005. Main sheet block on boom just aft of vang was at the gooseneck & slid aft. Then to the standing block on deck aft of mast which was remounted with the previously mentioned wood block that I turned & cut @ a ~35 degree bevel to tilt aft. The block can be seen in the first photo posted, you have to zoom in.
